Horror Movie Quiz
A horror movie quiz in eighteen questions: the makers of the scary canon, the years it arrived, and which films belong to it.
Eighteen questions from the scary shelf
This horror movie quiz works the scary canon from three sides: who made these films, when they arrived, and which titles belong to the genre at all. That last one matters more in horror than anywhere else — the borders of the genre are where the arguments live — so membership questions sit alongside the makers and the years. Eighteen questions in all, drawn from films old enough that the arguing has mostly stopped.
How the answers were vetted
Genre is exactly the kind of fact that goes soft when one person writes the answer key alone. So no one did. The dataset behind this site was compiled twice by independent authors and compared value by value — directors, years, and genre columns included — and all seventy-seven keys agreed. The one genuine split, a famous film that one author filed as crime and the other as thriller, was resolved the only defensible way: the question was dropped. Every genre call you meet here is one both authors made separately and made the same.
Left out on principle: box-office figures, which do not hold still; films too recent for their standing to be settled; and famous lines, because a quote bank is quotation by the pound and we refused to build one.
The mechanics
Four options a question. An answer is judged the moment you pick it, and the correct one is shown even when you miss. The round ends in a full review, and your best score is stored in your browser. There is no signup and no account.
