This Oscar quiz covers Best Picture winners ceremony by ceremony, 1995 through 2024 — thirty years of the award, twenty questions on which film took it and when. The winners themselves are never named in this text; naming them is the quiz’s job, and the quiz keeps it.

The record, written twice

Awards trivia attracts sloppy answer keys, so this one was built the slow way. Two authors each wrote out the Best Picture record for all thirty ceremonies independently, alongside the site’s other tables — the classic films, the catalog of cinema firsts — and the copies were compared value by value. Seventy-seven of seventy-seven keys agreed, the winners’ roll among them. Years are handled carefully too: the year a ceremony is held and the year its films opened are not the same thing, and the dataset keeps them straight so the questions can.

What this page refuses: box-office questions, because records change hands and an awards page should outlast the weekend charts; anything more recent than the 2024 ceremony, because the record needs time to settle; and quoted speeches or dialogue, because reproducing famous lines by the page is quotation by the pound, and the site declines it across the board.
